Launch Day!
Added on 13 September 2017
What a lovely Launch Day we all had at Muir Hub on Saturday. Lynne, from AOC Archaeology, Lachlan, our Outreach Coordinator from HAS, Eric and myself set up first thing in the morning and in no time at all we had people arriving to see our display. From 10 o’clock onwards we had a steady stream of people looking at the displays, trying the shell challenge and asking questions.
I found the day really rewarding, so many of the visitors had both heard of our project and take the time to come and talk to us.
I particularly enjoyed talking to a teacher assistant from one of the nearby schools and seeing her get so enthusiastic about the possibilities of our project. Maths in the field, children measuring and planning buildings, learning about real local history and seeing where it had happened, art work and storytelling based on their experiences when they visit the site. The possibilities suddenly became endless and exciting.
We had families, everyone from 3 month old babies to their grannies and grandpas and all ages in between. Many have offered their time to the project signing up to the excavation which starts on the 23rd September. Others suggested ways of getting our message out to everyone. We therefore hope to have regular updates in the Muir Matters and on the screen in the Muir Hub. Several people took away leaflet and posters to distribute to their own areas.
The most important field walking finds will remain on display for the time being for anyone who wasn’t able to come today.
We all would like to thank everyone in Muir of Ord for their warm welcome and especially Muir Hub for hosting our Launch Day. I can personally recommend the soup.
